#Boxwoodontheroad with Jessica

Good day all! I hope everyone is enjoying this very unpredictable spring weather.  The one thing I can predict is the popularity of our 2016 Rosé and our first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc.  As loyal members are aware, we are selling out quickly.  If you need to stock up, you should head over to the winery and enjoy a lovely day of sipping while relishing the beautiful views.  Perhaps you can bring friends and reserve a Group Tasting Experience – it is an elegant way to truly experience all that Boxwood Winery has to offer.  Check out our website for details on packages.
On another note, I am patiently waiting to get out on the road with the 2015 vintages of Trellis and Boxwood Reserve.  We are thrilled to report the wines have been highly rated!  While I wait, I will continue to support our existing clients - restaurants, retailers and the like.  I am very excited to be showcasing our new lineup which will be available soon.
Over the next couple of weeks I will be conducting numerous onsite events, some of which include a visit to Gentle Harvest in Marshall, VA and Dawsons Market in Montgomery County, MD. If you are in the area please feel free to stop by for a visit and pick up your favorite Boxwood Wine.  In May I will be attending the Virginia Wine Summit. This is a fantastic venue to meet and learn about other producers in our area as well as meeting wine enthusiasts from all over Virginia and beyond. I am especially looking forward to a panel discussion about Virginia Rosé featuring Boxwood 2016 Rosé.
I will keep you up to date on my next moves, and I look forward to seeing you at Boxwood Winery.  Also, don’t forget to visit our Tasting Room Wine Bar & Shops in Reston and National Harbor.  Spring has sprung, so it's patio season - get out and enjoy!

As always,

-Jessica Chivers-Wilson, Sales Representative VA/DC/MD

Vineyard News

Spring has sprung in the vineyard at Boxwood Estate as we experienced one of the warmest Aprils on record, bringing about an earlier than usual start to the growing season!  The crew has been working hard to make the final pruning cuts and to ensure that every vine gets the special attention that it needs to thrive and survive.

In early May, we will be planting the last of our planned blocks of Sauvignon Gris vines, rounding out our exciting new white wine program that has been such a big hit since the release of our inaugural vintage of Sauvignon Blanc.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for a long and dry 2017 growing season!

I began as Winemaker and Vineyard Manager in March and have been working hard with consultants Lucie Morton and Stephane Derenoncourt to ensure that we continue the success of  Boxwood’s estate wine program. We will continue to deliver top-quality, estate-grown, terroir driven wines to your glass on a regular basis.  Be sure to stay tuned for the recently bottled 2015 vintages of Trellis, Topiary, and the inaugural vintage of Boxwood Reserve!
I am honored to be a part of the Boxwood team and very much look forward to meeting our wonderful club members and visitors in the coming months.  Please be sure to come to the winery armed with any questions you may have about grape growing or wine production, we will make sure you learn something while enjoying a glass during your next visit.

Tyler Henley

Tyler was born in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Spokane, Washington.  He received his B.S. in economics at Claremont McKenna College outside Los Angeles where he earned his Series 7 Financial Consultant’s license.  After graduation, Tyler soon realized that life in the finance world was not for him, and beginning in 2009 he worked at some historic California wine estates, including Chappellet Vineyard & Winery, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, and Brassfield Estate.  In 2013, he even ventured to the Casablanca area in Chile where he travelled and worked a vintage.
Travelling in South America and working throughout California ignited a further interest in other flourishing wine growing regions.  With this in mind, Tyler settled into the Middleburg AVA, the latest hotspot in American winemaking.  Most recently, Tyler was Winemaker and Vineyard Operations Manager at a startup winery in Delaplane Virginia, and now brings his passion for farming and winemaking to Boxwood Estate.
We are excited to introduce Tyler and are thrilled to have him as part of the team!
