Despite the fact that we are entering the “dog days of summer,” the production team is beginning to anticipate the autumn months and the coming of the 2017 harvest season. With a great fruit set behind us, we have been working diligently to ensure that the vines remain healthy and that optimum ripeness is achieved. Currently in the estate vineyard, all of our varietals have begun the color transformation known as “veraison” and soon enough we will collect samples and track the chemistry of each individual block as the clusters approach maturity.
We are also excited about the expansion of our capacity here at Boxwood Estate. We are phasing in the newer blocks of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris planted between 2014 and 2017. Be sure to have a peek at the bottling room during your next visit to the winery – we are preparing to install four new tanks specifically for the new blocks! Furthermore, we are excited about the brand-new press we received, which removes the skins from the grape juice. We are looking forward to loading it up with Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris sometime around September 1st!
I am very excited for the upcoming harvest season and can’t wait to produce my first wines here at Boxwood. I am looking forward to sharing them with our loyal wine club members and patrons in the near future. We have several opportunities for unique tasting experiences on the horizon, so please stay tuned and feel free to come and be a part of the excitement of harvest season!
